What is Furoshiki?

A Furoshiki is a reusable gift wrapping cloth made of fabric. This is meant to be a waste reducing alternative to wrapping paper.

While some wrapping papers are recyclable, wrapping paper cannot be recycled if it contains sparkles, glitter, sequins, foil, artificial texture, sticky gift labels, or plastic. Additionally, most ribbons and tapes used with wrapping gifts cannot be recycled either.

Even when all the stars align, and everything used to wrap the gift is recyclable, the resources that go into the recycling process and making new single-use wrapping paper can be saved by opting instead for our reusable, handcrafted and upcycled Furoshiki style wrapping fabrics.

Some gifts have awkward shapes that make using wrapping paper tricky (and messy). With the flexibility and durability of fabric wraps, there are many different ways to wrap beautiful earth friendly gifts!

Upcycled Fabric

The fabric we use for our Furoshiki wrapping fabric is all 100% upcycled and/or secondhand. The majority of the fabric we use for our Furoshiki started out their life cycle as Polyester tablecloths with a linen rental company or curtains from a local thrift shop.

When these tablecloths become damaged, and are unable to be rented, rather than going to landfill, we give them another chance to be useful for years to come by removing the damage and making what is still in great condition into these beautiful Furoshiki gift wrapping fabric.

A Gift That Keeps Giving

When you choose reusable Furoshiki fabric wraps, you can choose to have a built in "pay it forward" bonus. The recipient of your gift can then use it for future gift giving and that recipient can use it again, etc.

You could also choose to have your own "family set" that you hold on to and reuse over and over again

Care Instructions

Furoshiki fabric wrapping cloths can be reused many times before needing to be washed unless they become soiled. When they need to be washed: Machine or handwash in lukewarm or cold water. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Avoid fabric softeners.
